Well, I’ve found another reason I’m not pleased with the new Internet Explorer.  Web sites that I’ve been creating with Microsoft Publisher and using for a long time no longer are fully viewable with the new Internet Explorer.  They are just fine with the other browsers I use, but not with I.E.

It doesn’t make me very happy as they are both Microsoft Products and now Publisher web pages are not showing properly or fully with the new Internet Explorer.  I’m not sure if I will need to try and rebuild it again with Publisher or if I just need to go to a new format.  Either way has just added a lot of work to an already full schedule.  I do hope that just a few tweaks and it’ll play nice again but …

So what are you finding different if you’ve downloaded the new Internet Explorer?

Have you downloaded the new Microsoft Internet Explorer yet?  If not, wait.  There are several sites that are still not set up for the new browser and if you download it before they are ready, you may have lost your access.  I found that my bank has not switched over yet and I lost my online banking access with the I.E. browser.  Good thing I believe in having multiple browsers installed as I just switched over to another browser to access my bank items.

The other thing I found is that in the past, I.E. would ask if you wanted to show both secure and unsecure content when you entered a site.  I would click yes.  Now, it asks a similar question but if you don’t read it fully and click yes, you don’t see all of the content.

With this upload, I keep getting asked if I want to help improve I.E. to which I reply, not now.  I don’t remember seeing a flat out no answer but I’ll keep looking.

So, if you haven’t uploaded the new version of I.E. yet, wait a little longer to do so.

On March 28, 2009 at 8:30 P.M. local time, the Frenzel household will be turning off the lights for one hour to participate in Earth Hour.  The cause of Earth Hour is stopping Global Warming.  With children in the household, that is very important as I want my children to have a good mother earth to raise their children in.

Over the last couple of years, more landmarks and cities have begun to participate in this event.  This year, Chicago will be participating as will the “Sears” Tower by turning off the spotlights they normally have shining on it.  Other landmarks participating will include Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, the Great Pyramids, and Sydney’s Opera House.  Also, several corporation will be dimming their lights to participate in Earth Hour including McDonalds, Marriott, Ritz-Carleton, Fairmont Hotels, and Coca-Cola.  Participation includes over 2,800 municipalities in 84 Countires with the numbers growing each year.

Just some interesting facts about Earth Hour.  Participation in 2008 by Chicago helped reduce the amount of CO2 that 104 acres of trees suck up over one hour.  If 100,000 lights are turned off for one hour, that normally would be on, enough CO2 would be averted during this time to equal the CO2 used by an average apartment for one year.

So, what will you be doing for the one hour while the lights are out at your house?  The youngest Frenzel would like to play board games by oil lamp light.  If it wasn’t for the snow on the ground and the cooler weather we are having, I would vote for a night of star watching.

My mom, Jane Ann, whom took me to a jewelry making class for my birthday, has added to our Two Girls Bling web site a Relationship Compatibility Forecaster.  It’s a fun thing to check out and priced at only $10 per report

The forecaster uses Vedic Astrology to help provide you with information about your compatibility.  The information needed to provide the most accurate information is the birth date, the birth time, and location of birth for both parties.  To order your compatibility forecaster, visit the Two Girls Bling link on the side or click here.  You can learn more about the report by visiting the compatibility forecaster link and clicking on “More Information.”

I enjoy walking out of a grocery store with 4 bags (the reusable kind) full of groceries knowing that I saved 57%.

Today the Frenzel family went to Castle Rock for our weekly Grocery Game shopping.  Each week I enjoy going through the grocery game list and finding what we need / use to stock up on at significant savings.  The place that had the most items on our list this week was Safeway as they are running the buy 10 items on the list and save $5 immediately.  With coupons, it brought the $99 total down to $44.44!

King Soopers and Walgreens, the other two stores on my list, had smaller lists of items that we use.  I did get 4 boxes of Frosted Flakes with coupons for $8.83 but walked out with the 4 boxes and a $2 off coupon for my next Walgreens purchase which makes the savings even that much sweeter.

I sure do enjoy saving at the Grocery Stores with the help of the Grocery Game!

As you can see from my Tweets, I had the opportunity to visit the Denver Home Show at the Western Stock Show Complex on Thursday evening.  It was the first day of being opened and being a Thursday evening, it was a great time to talk to those with booths at the show and learn more about the products.

We’ve been using reusable bags for awile in the Frenzel household.  We keep several in the car so when we go into a store we can take a bag or two in for our purchases.  So, when Jeff and I saw reusable bags at the Home Show, we were pleased that more people would be exposed to more options for bags but we didn’t stop on our first pass by.  I told Jeff that I was intrigued though and would go back after we saw everything at the show.  Well, I did.

The 4ever Bags  are a product from the non-profit group Campaign of the Environmental Coalition.  That is a positive in my book.  The bags fold into themselves into a little bag so their footprint in the car is really small while giving you a pocket to put your “club” card in when it’s open.  Another positve!  They are washable which is not something that is easily done with most that you purchase from the stores for $1.   The bags are made of a “parachute” type of material and can hold up to 40lbs.  When I purchased 3 bags from 4ever Bags they came with a clip which helps keep unused bags together and then when the bags are loaded, it helps to carry and keep them together easier in your car.  And one of the best items about the 4ever Bags – They are Fair Trade Certified.

No, I don’t own stock in either 4ever Bags or the Campaign of the Environmental Coalition.  I just think that it is a really great product that I purchased two sets of at the Denver Home Show.  If you want to look at the Campaign of The Environmental Coalition, please click on their name in this sentence.  To learn more about 4ever Bags, click on their name and you’ll be taken to their web site.  Please note that the 4ever Bags website does have a “person” that comes on to the screen to describe and show the product so you can either watch and learn or hit the pause button at the bottom of the web page.

I enjoy Sunday’s for their slower pace.  That is the one day that the Frenzel family tries to schedule family time at home.  This Sunday was no exception.

As I was able to enjoy the slower pace, I was able to work on the computer and update my Facebook account and my LinkedIn account.  I’ve had a Facebook account for awhile but just updated items so I could keep in the loop of what Heather is doing as she travels and stays busy in her adult life.  But I can also stay in touch with friends from Katharina’s school last year.  Sometimes it is easier to keep up to date with people at odd hours or in between items.

LinkedIn is another place that I had an account but I didn’t really do anything with.  I’ve received invitations to join other’s circles on LinkedIn but really didn’t understand the whole “social” networking thing.  As I find with twitter, once you try it a little, it becomes addictive.  It also lets me, Wendy Frenzel, put information out on cyberspace about me, Wendy Frenzel.  I’m sure as I go along I’ll learn more about Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Maybe the reason I’m venturing out to these sites is because of the phone that I have now.  I used to be a firm believer in the Palm Treo systems.  So much so, I had my Palm Treo for over 2 years and still stayed loyal as the system started doing “weird” things.  When that happens, it’s usually time to upgrade as phone technology is always changing.  When my mobile phone carrier offered me the opportunity to upgrade to the Blackberry Storm at a better price than normal, I decided that it might be time to make the change.

With the change of phones, not only do I have newer technology, I have access to more email accounts and more applications for the social networking sites than I did before.  Also, the service costs for internet access is less with the Blackberry than what I was being charged for the Palm.  More services (applications) at a lower price makes for a great deal.

By no means am I an expert yet, nor most likely will ever be.  But as time goes along, I’ll share with you what I’ve learned.

When you work with Instant Challenge (IC) for Destination Imagination (DI), it is said, “What happens in IC, stays in IC.”  Why?  We want it to be fair to all the teams that participate in DI to have the same experiences when they are presented with the same IC.

IC is not something that a team can prepare for except by practicing old IC’s and learning about the different ways materials can be used.  They also can prepare as they learn how to work together as a team.  Teamwork is one of the biggest scoring areas in IC.  Other areas that can be scored are how materials were used and was the challenge solved.

But if one team goes into IC knowing about that challenge exactly and how to solve it, they have an unfair advantage over those teams that don’t know the challenge.  Since DI is a program around the world and each area holds tournaments at different times, if a parent learns about a challenge from their child and then discusses it with their sister in another area and then the sister discusses it with their best friend who then discusses it with their child that just happens to be on a DI team, what could happen?  This is why, “What happens in IC, stays in IC,” until after Globals so all children are on the same playing field.

I can say that I had many great solutions presented at the Denver Region Tournament in the Rising Star IC challenge.  They were great in understanding that I had to keep their “creations” a secret until June, which can be a very hard concept for 5 through 7 year olds.  It’s important for parents to understand this concept as well and have faith that DI is there to help their children grow and that they will learn about the challenge soon enough.  Just think of it as the present that you are waiting to unwrap in June that your child has for you.

Thank you to the Challenge Masters, appraisers, Team Managers, and teams for making yesterday such a fun day at George Washington High School for the Denver Region Tournament.  I’m sure I’ll see some of those teams that are moving on to state in IC.

Extra hugs go out to the kids.

There are days when you have your little ones around and you just expect them to always be with you.  Yes, they grow up, but as a parent, you don’t have the concept that something could happen to them to possible hurt them or take them away from you.  With that, you sometimes forget that extra hug or just to tell them that you love them one more time.

Two families that I know are going through a rough time with their little girls.  One family is a little over a week into knowing their 7 year old daughter (the same age as my youngest) has abdominal cancer.  Through their Caring Bridge site I can be updated on their ups and downs, joys and sadness, and know the power of prayer is great.  I can forward these updates to the prayer chain for my church where little Amy is on the prayer chain – just one of many prayer chains she is listed on.

The other family lives across the street from me and their little one is at Children’s Hospital.  We’ve always known that Abbey has had medical problems.  Over the years she’s had good times and then some bad times.  Everytime that she was across the street that we knew about, my little one would be across the street to play.  They would race down the street, Kat on her bike and Abbey in her motorized chair.  Or they would sit inside the house and play with horses or other “quiet” activity (though I’m sure it was never really quiet as both girls have a hearty laugh).  Kat is hoping that her friend will be back across the street soon to play.

So, extra hugs go out to the kids with prayers to keep them safe and secure.

One of the things we do at the Frenzel household is to try and buy / use items that are good for the environment.  With that in mind, we’ve been using 7th Generation products for awhile to clean with around the home and for laundry.

7th Generation has a good newsletter to help you “think” about your footprint and other resources we use day to day.  Initially we signed up to receive coupons but along the way we’ve learned more which have helped us rethink our shopping and our usage of certain products.

If you are interested in signing up for the 7th Generation Newsletter to help you think more about the world and your impact on it, visit 7th Generation at www.seventhgeneration.com/learn
